A FibroScan® Alternative for Point-of-Care Liver Stiffness Measurement
iLivTouch® is a transient elastography system that measures liver stiffness and steatosis at the point of care, used in GI, hepatology, endocrinology and primary care settings, with over 6,000 units installed worldwide.
iLivTouch® measures liver stiffness, reported in kPa, and steatosis (fat in the liver), reported as an attenuation value, supporting noninvasive assessment of liver fibrosis and fatty liver disease, including MASLD and MASH.
What iLivTouch® Measures
Both iLivTouch® and FibroScan® perform transient elastography to measure liver stiffness. iLivTouch adds real-time B-mode ultrasound imaging guidance, allowing the operator to visualize the liver and select the measurement site directly rather than measure blindly. It is offered in a portable model (Mini800) and a cart-based model (FT9000). Examinations with imaging guidance are billed under CPT 76981, while elastography without imaging guidance falls under CPT 91200.
iLivTouch® vs. FibroScan®: How They Compare
Operation Guide for Mini800
HISKY Medical Mini800 ultrasound probe (B-mode image) included for Vibration Controlled Transient Elastography - measures Fatty Liver (steatosis score) and Fibrosis score. The patient lies on an exam table while the operator uses real-time B-mode ultrasound imaging guidance to see the liver and select the measurement site. The exam takes a few minutes, is painless and noninvasive, and results are available immediately.
Reimbursement: CPT 76981
Liver elastography with imaging guidance is billed under CPT 76981. NexGen provides a reimbursement guide with code details and documentation guidance — request it with a demo and our team will walk through it with you.
Presented at the 2024 AASLD, this multicenter, prospective study conducted by NYU Langone Health, in collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine, demonstrated a strong correlation between iLivTouch and FibroScan in assessing liver stiffness and attenuation parameters. iLivTouch’s 2D image-guided function facilitated the identification of the optimal test spot. Both devices are effective for diagnosing and grading liver fibrosis and steatosis, and for composing FAST scores, without safety concerns.
